Recipe: Tarka Dal

Ingredients
For stew (3 persons):
3
dl
red lentils
1 onion
3 cloves of garlic
2 small carrots
3 tomatoes (substitute for crushed tomatoes)
2
dl
Coconut milk
Chillies
Fresh ginger
Ground cumin
Turmeric powder
Juice from 1 lime
Rapeseed oil (or equivalent)
Mustard seeds
We suggest serving with rice or home made naan or roti bread.
For garnish (pick and choose):
Salt
Black pepper
Cherry tomatoes
Roast almonds
Yoghurt (such as Turkish)
Coriander
Crispy onions
Actions
Dice onion and carrot.
Fry cumin in oil for a few minutes before adding onion.
Once golden, add rest of spices and carrot.
Wash lentils in cold water and add to stew alongside 3
dl
water. Stir and add water continuously to submerge lentils.
Add tomatoes and coconut.
Add salt to taste, simmer until lentils soft.
Add lime juice.
Serve and garnish.
